Frequently asked

Short answers to the questions we get most.

Does LiftMonkey cost anything?

The web app is free to use for personal saves. That may change later; if it does, we'll be explicit about what's free and what isn't.

What YouTube qualities can I get?

The status page shows a quality picker after extraction. 360p and 720p are usually delivered as a single progressive file (fast). 1080p, 1440p, and 4K (2160p) are muxed on our side from separate video and audio streams — they take an extra 30-120 seconds to prepare before the download starts. If a video doesn't have a particular quality available, that option is hidden from the picker.

Can I download a whole profile?

No. LiftMonkey is single-URL on purpose. Bulk scraping is out of scope for personal-use saves and would put us on the wrong side of platform terms.

Is there a browser extension?

Not yet. Extensions are on the roadmap as a separate project, but the web app is the current focus.

Can I send URLs from another app?

Yes — this is LlamaDrop. On iOS, install the Send to LiftMonkey Shortcut and that action shows up in every app's share sheet (Safari, Twitter/X, Photos, etc.); tap it and the shared URL lands as a queued save. Full setup walkthrough on the iOS Shortcut (LlamaDrop) page. Any app or automation that can open a URL can also hit https://liftmonkey.app/save?url=<encoded> directly. You'll need to be signed in — LiftMonkey picks up your session cookie automatically.

Is there a full programmatic API?

Beyond the LlamaDrop share-target above, no general-purpose API today. If you want programmatic cloud routing, pair LiftMonkey with SnapMonkey, which does expose APIs.

Why does this extraction take longer than the last one?

A few things can slow a request down: the platform being slow, a retry after a transient block, or picking a higher-quality variant that requires an extra round-trip. Most finish in under 10 seconds; an occasional one can take up to a minute.

Can I save private or friends-only posts?

No. LiftMonkey only extracts media that's reachable without being signed in as a specific authorized viewer. If you can't see it in an incognito browser, we can't extract it.

Do you store my media?

Only for the brief moment it takes to deliver it. We don't keep copies beyond the transfer.

What happens if a platform changes and extraction breaks?

Each platform is handled by an independent adapter, so a break in one doesn't take down the others. We update adapters as platforms change — for most changes the fix is a new URL pattern or a new page selector.
