Terms of Service

Effective: April 16, 2026

Plain English summary

LiftMonkey helps you save a photo or video from a social platform to your own device or cloud storage. It exists for personal, non-commercial use. You are responsible for making sure you have the right to save whatever you paste.

Personal, non-commercial use

LiftMonkey is provided for personal archiving of media you have the right to save — for example, content you created, content shared publicly that you want to keep for personal reference, or content you otherwise have permission to download. The service is not licensed for commercial redistribution, bulk collection, re-hosting, or any use that interferes with the source platform.

Your responsibility

Each time you paste a URL into LiftMonkey, you confirm that you have the right to save the content at that URL for personal, non-commercial use. If you don't hold that right, don't use the service for that URL.

You are also responsible for respecting the terms of service of the source platform (Twitter/X, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, and broadcast-news sites such as CBS News, ABC News, and NBC News). LiftMonkey does not grant you rights under those platforms' terms; it only helps you access media you're already permitted to access. Broadcast news content in particular is subject to stricter copyright than user-generated social posts — save only segments you have the right to save for personal reference.

How LiftMonkey handles your media

  • LiftMonkey fetches media in response to URLs you paste; it does not cache or re-host platform content for other users.
  • Media passes through the service to reach you or your chosen destination (such as a connected cloud storage). Transient copies needed to complete the transfer are retained only as long as needed.
  • LiftMonkey does not offer bulk or scheduled downloads. Each request is a single URL you initiate.

Acceptable use

You agree not to use LiftMonkey to:

  • Save content you don't have the right to save.
  • Engage in scraping, bulk collection, or automated use beyond casual personal use.
  • Redistribute, re-host, or commercially exploit content obtained through the service.
  • Circumvent platform restrictions in a way that violates those platforms' terms or applicable law.

Download logs and privacy

LiftMonkey records every download attempt — anonymous and signed-in alike — so operators can diagnose failures, enforce abuse limits, and help users review their own activity. Each row captures the media request, filename, byte count, outcome, and (by default) the client IP address and browser identity. Rows are tied to your account when you're signed in, or to the request IP when you're not.

What's stored depends on your tier:

  • Free and Good accounts always have IP and browser identity stored. The data is used to enforce abuse limits (daily caps, bad-actor throttling) and to support account review.
  • Better and Best accounts may opt into private logging under Account → Privacy. With the option on, new download log rows are written with IP and browser identity omitted; your internal user id is retained so your activity view still works, but operators see [private] in those columns of the admin audit.
  • Anonymous visitors are logged by IP so abuse controls work. There is no self-service way for an anonymous visitor to view or purge their own rows.

Better/Best users can also retroactively purge IP and browser identity from their past rows via the Purge PII button on the privacy settings page. Purged rows cannot be restored.

We do not currently run a scheduled retention sweep — logs persist until an operator prunes them or a user purges their own PII. A retention policy is on the roadmap.

No warranty

LiftMonkey is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. Platforms change, extraction methods break, and requests may fail or return unexpected results. The service may be unavailable or modified at any time.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. Material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date above. Continued use after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
