What LiftMonkey does
Paste a URL. Get your media. Done. Here's what's behind those three words.
Multi-platform support
One paste box, many sources. LiftMonkey recognizes URLs from the platforms most people actually want to save from, and picks the right extractor automatically — you don't tell us where the link came from.
- Social: Twitter / X, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn.
- Video: YouTube, TikTok.
- US broadcast news: CBS News, ABC News, NBC News.
- News portals: MSN.
Each platform has its own quirks — private posts, geo-blocks, stories that expire, livestreams that aren't downloadable until they end. We tell you when something can't be saved and why, instead of failing silently.
Adding new platforms is a contained change on our end, not a rewrite. If there's a source you want supported, ask — we track demand.
Cloud destinations
By default, your media downloads straight to whatever device you're on. If you'd rather have saves land in cloud storage automatically — without a manual upload step — connect a destination once and LiftMonkey will route every save there for you.
LiftMonkey pairs with SnapMonkey, our sibling product, for the cloud-routing layer. SnapMonkey already handles the connections to S3, Azure Blob, Google Cloud Storage, and other endpoints — LiftMonkey just hands the file off and SnapMonkey takes it from there.
You stay in control: every cloud connection is yours, in your account, revocable any time. LiftMonkey doesn't keep a copy of your media after the handoff completes.
Photos and videos
Whether the post is a single photo, a gallery, a short video, or a long one, LiftMonkey detects the media type and picks the best quality version available to deliver to you.
- Photos are saved at the highest resolution the platform exposes — usually full original quality, sometimes capped by the platform itself.
- Videos are downloaded with audio, in the best-quality stream we can pull. For platforms that serve separate video and audio streams (some YouTube content, for example), we mux them together into a single MP4 file before handing it to you.
- Galleries and threads with multiple media items are detected; you choose which ones you want.
Quality is whatever the source platform actually serves — we don't upscale or re-encode beyond what's necessary to deliver a playable file.
Personal use only
LiftMonkey exists for one purpose: helping individual users save media they have the right to save, for personal reference and personal archives. That's it.
LiftMonkey is not licensed for any of the following:
- Bulk downloading. One URL at a time, by a human, for that human's own use. No scraping, no scheduled jobs, no batch tools, no "save every post from this account."
- Commercial use. Saved media may not be used in a product, service, advertisement, sponsored content, paid newsletter, agency deliverable, or any context where you or someone else is making money from the content.
- Re-hosting or redistribution. Don't re-upload saved media to another platform, share it as if it were yours, or build a feed/library/site from content saved through LiftMonkey.
- Circumventing platform restrictions. If a platform blocks something, blocks you, or restricts content to logged-in / paid / specific users, LiftMonkey is not a workaround. We're not in the access-bypass business.
Saving a piece of media through LiftMonkey does not transfer any rights to you. The platform's terms still apply. The original creator's copyright still applies. Llama Vision gives you a tool; it does not give you a license to the content. If you don't already have the right to save and use a piece of media for the purpose you have in mind, LiftMonkey doesn't change that.
Every paste of a URL into LiftMonkey is your confirmation that you have the right to save that specific piece of content for personal, non-commercial use. If you're not sure you have that right, don't paste the URL.
